The Tak-i Zargaron

Изображение
Date:01.02.2023. Day: Wednesday Historical place: Tak-i Zargaron Location: Bukhara region Today we went to Toqi Zargaron. I broaden my knowledge about our history. The Tak-i Zargaron is a multiple dome-covered market located at the intersection of the primary east-west and north-south streets of Bukhara's center city (Shahristan). The largest and best preserved of Bukhara's once numerous crossroad markets (chorsu), its name translates to "The Dome of Jewelers or Goldsmiths", which conflicts with its traditional function as a textile market. Although no single patron or inaugural date is recorded, passages in Arab historian Zain- ud Din Wofisi's (1485-1551) 'Badaye' al-Vaqaye' suggest an early sixteenth century date under Timurid instead of the popularly believed Shaybanid patronage. Domed crossroad markets were popularly called "Taks" (arch) referring to their characteristic vaulted shell structures. The pivotal role of "tak"s in su...

Date:31.01.2023 Day: Tuesday Historical place: Toqi Sarrafon Location: Bukhara region We went to Toqi Sarrafon which is trade dome of the money changers. We learned the history of this building with my groupmates and our teacher Aziza Abdullayevna. The Toki Sarrofon is one of the famous Bukhara retail areas, built in the 16th century. During the reign of the Sheibanids, the ancient religious city of Bukhara acquires the status of the capital and is replenished with numerous trading floors, bazaars and shops, becoming the main center of trade. So, the most known trading platform combined some specialized market stalls, covered by the big domes. One of them is the "Toki" (arch), Sarrophon, named after the local "money changers", which were known as "sarrafs". In this part of the bazaar they changed money and carried out various usurious operations. Once upon a time, this place was famous for the currency exchange, which collected numerous visiting merchants ...

Magoki Attori Mosque.

Изображение
Welcome to my blog 😊. My fourth practice day in the historical place of Bukhara. Date:26.01.2023. Day: Thursday. Historical place: Magoki Attori Mosque. Location: Bukhara region. In the centre of Bukhara to the west of the famous Lyabi Hauz square is located the oldest mosque in Bukhara – Magoki Attori – is located. Its construction in 714 is associated with the name of the Arab Sheikh, Governor of Khorasan, Qutayba Ibn Muslim – one of the first people who brought Islam to the territory of Central Asia. Even before the arrival of the Arabs to Bukhara, a bazaar was located on the site of the mosque, where before the establishment of Islam, Zoroastrian idols, medicinal herbs and spices – attoron – were sold. And in the beginning, this place was called Attoron Bazaar. There was also a cult Zoroastrian temple of the Moon.  It forms a part of the historical religious complex of Lyab-i Hauz. The mosque is located in the historical center of Bukhara, about 300 meters southwest of Po-i-Kalyan...

Chor Minor Madrasah.

Изображение
Today is the second day of our practice. Date:24.01.2023 Day: Tuesday Historical place: Chor Minor Madrasah Location: Bukhara region Speaking of the Bukhara’s unusual monuments, first of all, we should tell about the Chor-Minor madrasah. It is located right behind Lyabi-Khauz, in the open space. “Chor–Minor” is translated as “four minarets”. This name is well justified: the corners of the square-rectangular madrasah building are really decorated with four small minarets crowned with blue domes, different in decors from each other. Each of the four minarets is of a different shape. The towers’ décor elements are believed to reflect the religious-philosophical understanding of the world’s four religions. At least, it is easy to see that some elements look like a cross, a Christian fish, and the Buddhist prayer wheel. In front of the madrasah building there is a patio, with a centrally occupied small basin – hauz, lined with stone blocks, and several hujrs adjacent to the madrasah sides. ...
